The Palmered Hackle

by L.B.F.

A feather tied to the body of a wet fly by the tip usually doubled, with the top part removed, starting behind the second turn of tinsel and following to the throat to provide movement and translucence while being fished.  It  consists usually of cock neck hackle having sufficient stiffness and strength to withstand the fishes teeth, but not too stiff to restrict its movement

Dry application is similar to wet, only its use is to provide buoyancy and light refraction to the fly. A cock neck, or saddle hackle with very little web provide the qualities necessary in inducing an attack from a fish. It is tied in by the Butt.

“Where The Rivers Meet”

The Fly Tyers of New Brunswick the 2nd Time Around

By Dewey H. Gillespie

“Where The Rivers Meet” The Fly Tyers of New Brunswick is the creation of Miramichi natives Dewey H. Gillespie and Walter Francis “Budd” Kitchen.  Since the early 1990’s they have collected and promoted information on New Brunswick Fly Tyers and now they wish to share this information with you.  The Fly Tyers represented in this collection were selected to acknowledge the contribution they made to the art of fly tying in the Province of New Brunswick.

Dewey and “Budd” graciously contribute this article to be published for your reading enjoyment.
